I had been experiencing constant neck and shoulder tension when I first started gong to Aaron. Over the course of multiple massages, Aaron worked out the knots that were causing the tension. I have a job that requires a lot of time spent at a desk in front of a computer, so it is really easy for this tightness to set in, but regular visits to Aaron have helped alleviate this. Additionally, he has shown me some stretches and exercises I can do in my own time to strengthen the muscles and improve my posture to prevent this issue.

Several months ago, I tripped on a broken sidewalk during a lunch time walk. On the way to the ground, I twisted my upper torso violently to avoid hitting my head, which actually worked. Unfortunately, the motion injured my back, and I began to experience significant pain soon thereafter. Within the next 48 hours the pain intensified, so I went to see my family practitioner who looked me over and prescribed some muscle relaxants and pain meds.

With each passing day, the pain worsened, and I soon found it difficult to walk more than a few steps. It was impossible to sit comfortably, and I was unable to sleep, exercise, or do anything else. The only place I found relief was lying flat on the floor with my knees pointing towards the ceiling. Altogether, I missed four days of work and was pretty worthless across the board.

About a week after the initial injury, with no improvement, I realized that my physician really didn’t have the answers I needed. I went to the chiropractor twice a week for the next two weeks, and although his manipulations seemed to address the source of the injury, the inflammation and muscle tightness were pretty well entrenched.

Although I still couldn’t walk very well, I returned to the Refinery fitness center to work the weights I could do and ride the exercise bike. That’s where I met Aaron Schoenecke. He was offering free chair massages to promote his growing practice in Champaign-Urbana, and I thought I would give it a shot. I sat in the chair, and before I was done explaining the details around my injury, he had already located the inflammation site and began working to loosen the knotted muscles. I immediately felt comfortable with Aaron, as he worked to loosen the tightness in my lower back, hip, and thigh.

On the following Monday, I made my first appointment with Aaron. It has taken several visits to his office, but I am back to full function, riding my bike and lifting weights as I had before the injury. As we went through the therapeutic massage process for my back, I mentioned a chronic pain I’ve experienced in my shoulder and we have made significant progress there as well.

My only regret is that I didn’t know Aaron before my injury. I sincerely believe that coupling chiropractic and therapeutic massage would have sped up my recovery and may have prevented the worsening pain and loss of work that I experienced. Aaron is not only a knowledgeable professional, he is also a great person, and I enthusiastically endorse his services whenever the topic appears.
